Help offers face-to-face counselling in Hammersmith, a short walk from Ravenscourt Park station. We’re a charity, and we see adults for many reasons: anxiety, depression, loneliness, bereavement, work stress, relationship difficulties or the weight of past events. You don’t have to be in crisis to deserve support.
Struggling with your mental health is common. Two in three UK adults (67%) say they’ve had a mental health issue in the last five years, according to BACP’s 2026 Public Perceptions Survey.
What you pay is worked out on a sliding scale, according to your income. All of our counsellors are registered with BACP, UKCP or an equivalent professional body and receive regular, expert supervision. No GP referral is required, so you can get in touch with us directly.
What to expect
Meeting us for the first time
You’ll begin with an initial assessment, which costs £25. An experienced assessor will ask about what’s been happening and what you’d like from counselling, and note any preferences you have. Our clinical team then matches you with a counsellor. Most clients start within two weeks.
Face-to-face counselling in Hammersmith
If you’re in Hammersmith, Brackenbury, Ravenscourt Park, Stamford Brook, Chiswick or Shepherd’s Bush, this location is likely to be the easiest to reach. Sessions are 50 minutes long and take place at the same time each week.
Seeing a therapist face to face gives you a dedicated space outside your everyday surroundings. Many people say it helps them settle in and talk more freely than they would over the phone or on video.
Confidentiality
Your sessions are confidential. In rare cases, where someone’s safety is at serious risk, your counsellor may need to share information. They’ll explain when this might apply at the very start.
How many sessions
We don’t put a cap on sessions. Most clients come for several months, and some stay longer. You and your counsellor will check in on your progress regularly and decide together when to finish.
Fees
Affordable counselling in Hammersmith and other London locations is possible because our fees are set on a sliding scale linked to income. Your fee is agreed at your initial assessment. If even our lowest fees are a stretch, speak to us. There may be other options. More information is on our Fees page.
Frequently asked questions
How do I get to Help’s Hammersmith counselling location?
Ravenscourt Park station (District line) is about 4 minutes’ walk away. Hammersmith station (Piccadilly, District, Circle and Hammersmith & City lines) is about 10 minutes on foot. When you arrive, go in through the main entrance and let reception know you’re here, or wait in the communal area.
Is there step-free access in the building?
Yes. The centre is fully wheelchair accessible, and there are two disabled parking bays right outside the entrance. Station access varies, so we’d recommend checking your route with TfL’s step-free journey planner.
Is there parking nearby?
The surrounding streets have resident permit bays and pay-by-phone bays. There are also two disabled parking bays in front of the building.
Do I need to come to the Hammersmith counselling centre for every session, or can some be online?
Your sessions will take place at our Hammersmith location at your agreed day and time each week. We aren’t able to offer a mix of online and in-person therapy sessions.
How quickly can I start counselling?
We hold assessments on most weekdays, and the majority of clients start their sessions within two weeks. You don’t need your GP to refer you. Book an initial assessment online, or fill in our Refer Yourself form and we’ll get back to you.
What if there’s no therapist available near Hammersmith?
If our Hammersmith counsellors are fully booked, you can wait for a space, take one at a nearby location such as Fulham & Putney Bridge or Ladbroke Grove, or begin online. We’ll explain each option at your assessment.
