Counselling in Fitzrovia & Central London

Help Counselling is a London charity offering affordable face-to-face counselling in Fitzrovia for adults dealing with anxiety, low mood, stress, bereavement, relationship difficulties, life changes and past experiences that still weigh on them.

You don’t need to have a clear label for what’s going on. Many people come to us simply because things feel harder than they should.

Our fees work on a sliding scale, so what you pay reflects what you can afford. All our counsellors are registered with BACP, UKCP or an equivalent professional body and work under regular, expert supervision. You don’t need a GP referral. You can contact us directly.

What to expect

Your first session

You start with an initial assessment. It’s a chance to talk through what’s brought you here and what you’d like from counselling. We then match you with a therapist in Fitzrovia who suits your needs and availability.

Face-to-face counselling in Fitzrovia

Sessions take place in person in a private, quiet room. Each session lasts 50 minutes and is usually held at the same time each week depending on your availability.

Confidentiality

What you talk about stays between you and your counsellor. The only exceptions are rare situations where someone’s safety is at risk. Your counsellor will explain these limits clearly at the start.

How many sessions

There’s no fixed number. Some clients come for a couple of months; others need longer term. You can talk about how it’s going at any point with your counsellor.

Fees

We believe counselling should be affordable for everyone no matter of their income. Our sliding-scale fees are set according to what you earn, and we’ll agree a fee with you at your initial assessment.

Frequently asked questions

How do I get to Help’s Fitzrovia & Central London counselling location?

The nearest station is Great Portland Street (Circle, Hammersmith & City and Metropolitan lines), about a 4-minute walk away. Oxford Circus (Central, Victoria and Bakerloo lines) is about 7 minutes on foot. We’ll send you the full address once your session is booked.

Is there step-free access at this location?

Yes, the building has step-free access. Please note that Great Portland Street and Oxford Circus stations are not step-free, so it’s worth planning your journey in advance. TfL’s step-free journey planner can help you find an accessible route. Several bus routes also stop nearby.

Do I need to travel to Fitzrovia for every session, or can some be online?

To give you a reliable space for your therapy, your weekly time and location are set aside exclusively for you. You can opt for either online or face-to-face therapy sessions, but we do not alternate between the two formats.

How soon can I start with a therapist?

Usually quite quickly, and you don’t need a GP referral. Book an initial assessment and we’ll talk you through current availability and match you with a counsellor as soon as we can.

What if there’s no therapist available in Fitzrovia?

If our Fitzrovia counsellors have no space when you’re ready, you can wait, choose a nearby location such as Marylebone & West End or Little Venice, or start online. We’ll talk through these options with you at your assessment.

Testimonial - Client1
Client testimonial

“This amazing organisation has given me the belief that I can or do have the skills/tools to cope with whatever life throws at one. The weekly sessions have resulted in re-gaining the lost inner strength, a heightened level of self-awareness, clarity and an articulation in all areas of my life. HELP has offered an intrinsically safe sanctuary, free of judgement and the sessions have resulted in giving a confidence and belief, that had somehow got mislaid. I feel immensely lucky to have been given the compassionate support I have received from my remarkable counsellor."
