Help Counselling is defined by its people. Our dedicated staff, experienced counsellors, trustees, and volunteers are all united by a shared commitment to compassion, professional excellence, and community. Together, we work to ensure that anyone who needs support can find it here.
Our Staff
The invaluable individuals who manage our day-to-day operations and support our clients and counsellors.

Louise Curd, CEO

Louise is our CEO and joined Help in May 2025. Louise is a qualified lawyer with a Psychology degree and has been using her combined legal and psychology skills in the charity sector for over 20 years.
Louise has considerable experience working in the charity sector in governance, operational and leadership roles with numerous charities including Oxfam, Citizens Advice local offices and International Lawyers Project. She is passionate about leveraging the power and commitment of the charity sector to support people in need.
Louise has experienced first-hand the positive effect that therapy can have and is delighted to be leading Help in its mission to bring such support to the people of West London and beyond.
Judy Walker, Clinical Manager

Judy is Clinical Manager at Help Counselling, having joined the charity in 2024. She is a qualified counsellor and supervisor with a wealth of experience and is an accredited member of the BACP. Judy has also worked as a counselling tutor in further education; teaching and supervising counselling trainees.
Prior to training as a therapist, most of Judy’s working life was spent in the NHS healthcare sector in various clinical and non-clinical roles in NHS hospitals.
Judy is a naturally empathic and compassionate person and says “I strongly believe that the quality of the relationships I build with my Help colleagues and our counsellors, and that they in turn develop with their clients, is key to the success of our work.”
Judy grew up in the borough of Wandsworth, an ethnically and culturally diverse area of London, and is sensitive to issues of difference, being strongly supportive of equality, diversity and inclusion.
Judy remains strongly committed to ongoing personal and professional development, with a firm belief that the best counsellors are those who have the greatest self-awareness; having engaged in long-term therapy themselves.
Emily Steel, Placement Coordinator

Emily is a therapist and bereavement counsellor working in private practice in London and is a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). She is an ambassador for the UK suicide bereavement charity Suicide & Co and has also volunteered at Samaritans.
Emily first came to Help in 2019, looking to work in the field of mental health after deciding to re-train as a therapist at the Minster Centre. She is now the Placement Coordinator, overseeing the trainees from their application and interview process, starting client work and accruing clinical hours, and finally through to ending their placements after qualifying. Emily is also part of Help’s clinical team alongside the Clinical Manager.
“Being a team member at Help, there is a real sense of togetherness and a shared commitment to making sure we provide not only the best possible service for the individuals referring themselves for counselling, but also ensuring we provide a meaningful experience for the trainee therapists on placement with us.
Knowing that Help is making a difference to peoples’ mental health and lives in general is certainly rewarding, but it’s the team members and therefore the charity as a whole that makes working and staying at Help so worthwhile.”
Eve McKenna, Senior Administrator

Eve is a senior administrator at Help Counselling, having joined the charity in 2025. She is a qualified marketing professional with prior experience in the charity sector. Eve has also recently qualified as a mental health first aider.
Eve leads Help’s marketing and IT capabilities. She feels passionately that people deserve access to mental health support and is proud to contribute to making this more accessible.
“Being a part of Help and a team with so much compassion and drive for providing the best possible service is a truly delightful experience.”
Maisie Brown, Administrator

Maisie first came to Help Counselling as a client. Like many, she was seeking affordable long-term therapy during a challenging time.
Maisie is now training as a counsellor and is currently in the early years of her studies. She believes deeply that therapy should be accessible to everyone and has come full circle — now supporting Help Counselling as a part-time administrator.
Before joining Help, Maisie worked in a range of roles including in hospitality as a wine and spirit specialist, stage manager at a large festival, and fundraiser for St Mungo’s homeless charity.
“The world can feel like a very heavy place, and I believe that nobody should have to carry that weight alone. Therapy can help you lighten the load, or help you learn new ways to carry it. Working for Help is incredibly rewarding and I feel privileged to work for a charity that provides support for people in need”
Our Board of Trustees
The custodians of our mission who provide strategic oversight and ensure the continued integrity of Help Counselling.
Moira Maguire, Chair

Moira joined Help as a Trustee in June 2017, assuming the role of Chair and non-executive CEO 3 years later. Moira has seen at first hand (through family and friends) the devastating impact that poor mental health can have if left unresolved. This experience prompted her involvement at Help, and her continuing commitment to the work of the charity.
Following her career in pharmaceuticals, telecommunications and financial services, Moira brings HR expertise, business, and general management skills to her work in the charity sector. Moira developed, managed, and advised global teams undergoing major change due to business growth and reorganisation across various sectors and geographies.
In addition to her involvement at Help, Moira has undertaken voluntary roles in the education sector (Bridge Academy Hackney) and currently acts as an external advisor at the University of St Andrews (MA Modern History, class of 1983) with a remit covering Remuneration, People and Diversity.
In her spare time Moira enjoys choir, yoga, gym, live music, theatre and the company of close family and friends.
Tim Neill, Treasurer
Tim qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1982 and has subsequently worked in the energy and financial services sectors, mainly in the financial control area. Tim joined the Board of Help in 2019.
As Treasurer, Tim exercises regular financial oversight and is a member of the Finance Committee. In addition to his formal role as Treasurer, Tim supports our CEO with the data and reporting that is required for funding applications. Tim also performs many of our company secretariat duties in order to ensure compliance with our charity and company law obligations.
Having undertaken other non-executive Board roles, Tim was keen to lend his experience and support to Help. Through his contribution he is pleased to be able to assist individuals who would otherwise struggle to access the mental health support they need.
David Leech

With a long-term interest in improving mental health, underpinned by lived experience, David joined Help in 2019. Since then, as trustee, he has played a role in both the direction and development of the charity as well as in active fundraising.
David is a seasoned HR professional with over three decades of experience spanning the private, public, and third sectors. As Director of DRL HR Ltd, and co-founder of Wood For The Trees Partnership, he offers bespoke coaching and consultancy services to charities, small businesses, and sole traders—particularly those navigating leadership challenges in complex environments.
David’s career includes senior HR roles with global organizations such as Hitachi Consulting, Rio Tinto, and Investec, as well as strategic positions in UK government bodies including the Office of Fair Trading. His work has taken him across Europe, the Americas, the Middle East, and Asia-Pacific, giving him a rich understanding of cultural dynamics and organizational development.
David also serves as a trustee for two other charities, including Home-Start Bristol & South Gloucestershire, supporting families with young children, and Chrysalis Supported Association, which provides housing support to vulnerable adults across the UK.
Kewei Orly

Kewei is a psychodynamic psychotherapist working within the NHS and in private practice. She has played a key role in supporting Help Counselling through its strategic transformation from in-person to hybrid services during the Covid pandemic. As one of the clinicians on the board, she has consistently contributed to clinical decision-making and carefully assessed the impact of organisational changes on therapeutic work with clients.
With her knowledge of mental health provision across both statutory services and the voluntary sector, Kewei is well positioned to advise Help Counselling on addressing the unmet need for affordable, high-quality counselling. She regularly advises on trainee-related matters, drawing on her own experience as a trainee and honorary psychotherapist during her clinical training.
Before training as a psychotherapist, Kewei held senior marketing roles in multinational technology and telecommunications companies, following a period in management consulting. She holds an MSc in Psychodynamic Counselling and Psychotherapy from Birkbeck College, University of London, and an MBA from Northwestern University.
Our Assessors and Supervisors
Our clinical practice is also well supported by our professional team of supervisors and assessors all of whom are dedicated to the Help’s mission of providing low-cost counselling services.
